The Ultimate Wedding Planner’s Budget Guide

Wondering where to start? Access expert guidance from planners behind 200+ celebrations and learn how to build a budget that reflects your priorities—without the stress.

You’ve said yes, and now the planning begins.

Between choosing a venue, finding your dream dress, and managing countless ideas, it’s easy for one question to steal the joy from the process: “How much will it all cost?”

We understand.

A wedding budget can feel like a maze of spreadsheets, unexpected costs, and opinions from every direction. But it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. At Faithful Weddings, we believe a well-planned budget doesn’t restrict your dreams—it gives you clarity to create your dream wedding.

After 200+ Celebrations, Here’s What We Know

The most memorable weddings aren’t defined by how much you spend; they’re defined by how intentionally you prioritize your budget.

When your budget reflects your values, your celebration naturally aligns with your story. Every decision—big or small—feels purposeful. We’ve spent years refining what we call The Faithful Budget Framework—a guide that brings clarity and perspective to one of the most complex parts of planning your day.

The Faithful Budget Framework

A thoughtful budget creates excitement, not limits. The key is balance—knowing where to invest, where to simplify, and how to make each choice with clarity.

Here’s how we recommend allocating your budget:

  • 40–50% – Venue, Catering & Rentals: The heart of your day — where memories begin.
  • 10–15% – Planning: Protects your investment and ensures every detail runs smoothly.
  • 10–12% – Photography & Videography: The moments you’ll return to for a lifetime.
  • 8–10% – Florals & Design: The details that bring your vision to life.
  • 8–10% – Entertainment: The rhythm and joy your guests will remember.
  • 5–10% – Contingency: A little cushion for peace of mind.
  • 5–7% – Attire, Beauty & Accessories: Confidence and grace, perfectly tailored.
  • 3–5% – Stationery, Gifts & Details: Thoughtful touches that tell your story.

These ranges aren’t rules—they’re simple guides. Every wedding is unique, and your budget should mirror what matters most to you.

What Couples Often Forget (and What We Always Recommend)

We’ve guided hundreds of couples through the budgeting process, and one truth always remains: dollars don’t tell the story–the planning of the details does.

Here’s what we remind our couples to keep in mind:

  • Start with your priorities. What three moments matter most to you?
    • A packed dancefloor all night long? Then we recommend booking an 8-13-piece band for high-energy entertainment.
    • Food experience- one of the more memorable moments that your guests will take away from the day. Prioritize a venue that will excel in its culinary experiences.
    • Remembering what the day is all about. In the hustle and bustle of things, take a few moments to soak in the real reason for the day. We always recommend a 5-10 minute “private moment” with your new spouse. The best time to schedule this is during cocktail hour after you’re finished with your photos. Pro tip: ask your caterer to prepare a tray of appetizers for you to enjoy (enter emoji)
  • Invest in experience. Guest comfort and flow shape the entire event.
    • If you’re getting married in Florida, factor in the weather. December through March are the coolest months for weddings. Outside of this, it may be warm and humid. To consider your guests’ comfort, invest in parasol umbrellas to block the sun.
  • Add a contingency early. Surprises happen—planning for them keeps peace intact.
    • We always recommend basing your rentals and floor plans on the maximum anticipated guest count. As a rule of thumb, 7-10% of your invited list will not attend. Get your rental chair, tabletop decor, and floral quotes based on the maximum number of guests. If fewer attend, it’s a money saver. The last thing you want to do is plan on 100 guests, but 140 end up responding yes, and now you’ve increased your budget by $40,000.
  • Revisit often. A budget isn’t static; it evolves as your plans take shape. We recommend visiting your budget before all purchases to remind yourself of your priorities. Weddings bring on lots of emotions (as they should). Having a reminder of where you are allocating your budget helps reduce stress.
